THE NEED

To bring all professionals connected with built environment like administrators, financiers, planners, developers, architects, structural engineers, civil engineers, public health engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, horticulturists, builders, manufacturers of building materials, researchers, teachers etc. together on one platform to form collective opinion so that built environment in the country is able to achieve the desired shape.


OBJECTIVE :-

To promote and encourage the science and practice of conceiving, planning, designing, constructing, caretaking and maintaining built environment, standards, use of innovative and new materials, to review and make suggestions to the Government for improving the built environment and working conditions and general welfare of construction workers and to provide a channel for the expression of collective ideas of members on the matters relating to built environment, with the following roles:

  1. Inter-face between various disciplines related to built environment on one hand, Construction Industry and the Government on the other.
  2. Promote of use of innovative technology and building materials to enhance quality, productivity and affordability.
  3. Promote of safety, heath, wages, working conditions and welfare of construction workers and supervisors.
  4. Disseminator of existing knowledge about built environment to others.
  5. Promoter of conservation and upgradation of environment and ecology.
  6. Promoter of improved system for administration, planning design, construction, operation, use and maintenance of built environment.

 

QUALIFICATION AND ADMISSION

ORDINARY MEMBERS :-

Administrators, Engineers, Architects, Planners, Educators, Trainers, Financiers, Developers and Builders who are, or have been, connected with the planning, designing, management, financing, construction, maintenance and caretaking of buildings, and such other persons engaged in a responsible capacity in the sciences allied to building design, construction and maintenance, may be elected ordinary member of the Society by the Executive Committee to be subsequently ratified by the Governing Council, subject to the Rules and Regulations of the Congress.

Note 1 : Nationals of SAARC countries who satisfy this condition, shall also be eligible to become members. Nationals of other countries may also be considered for membership on conditions to be laid down by the Governing Council.

Note 2: The expression, connected with, shall, for the purpose of this Rule be deemed to include, being or having been;

I)                   Connected with the various disciplines of built environment and buildings.

II)                 Engaged (whether in public employment or in business or otherwise) in connection with various resources / materials, used in buildings or engaged in research and development about the same or otherwise connected with buildings to an extent, in the opinion of the Council, sufficient to being a person within the said expression.

INSTITUTIONAL MEMBERS :-

Such Institutions, Government Departments, Educational Institutions, Public Bodies, Organisations, Enterprises and Companies which have been in the opinion of the Governing Council, engaged in the administration of buildings or work of construction and maintenance of buildings or with the manufacture or sale or development and promotion of materials and equipment used in connection with the construction or reparing and maintenance of buildings as may be elected Institutional Members of the Congress by the Executive Committee to be subsequently ratified by the Governing Council. Each such body shall be represented at any time by only one nominee.

MEMBERSHIP :-

At present, IBC has a membership strength of 57 Institutional Members and 1250 Individual Members.

 HONORARY MEMBERS

 Such persons, who on account of their being, in the opinion of the Governing Council, distinguished in the science and practice of building construction, may be elected Honorary Members of the Congress by the Governing Council.

 ENTRANCE FEES & SUBSCRIPTION

 An entrance fee shall be payable by Members on election on the following scale:

 1) Chief Patron, Patrons and Hony. Members             Nil

2) Ordinary Members                                                          Rs.500/-

3) Institutional Members                                               Rs.5,000/-

Provided however, that no entrance fee shall be payable by the Founding Individual Members signing the Memorandum of Association or those who were present at the Founders meet on September 1, 1992 at Vigyan Bhawan Annexe, New Delhi.

 

SUBSCRIPTION

An yearly subscription shall be payable by members on the following scale:

 1) Chief patron, Patron and Hon. Members                    Nil  

 2) Members

 Indian Nationals & Nationals of SAARC Countries                      Rs.200/-

Nationals of Other Countries                                                           U$ 100/-

 3) Institutional Members

 Indian & SAARC Country Associations, Societies, Research Institutions, Teaching Institutions, Government Departments and private firms or companies with annual budget/turnover

 a) Less than Rs.10 Crores                Rs.  5.000/-

b) Between Rs. 10-100 Crores            Rs.10,000/-

c) Between Rs. 100-200 Crores            Rs.25,000/-

d) More than Rs. 200 Crores                         Rs.50,000/-

 Organisations of Other Countries U$$ 1,000/-

 Members whose subscriptions are not in arrears may compound their future annual subscriptions by a single payment depending upon their age at the time in accordance with the table below:
